Next week, the FamilyFarmed.org Expo comes to Chicago once again. The three day event is being held at the Historic Chicago Cultural Center, 77 East Randolph Street and 78 East Washington Street. It features seminars, cooking demonstrations, 120 exhibitors offering samples of local food, gifts and information, all in the service of supporting local, family-run businesses. What more could you want from an Expo?

"Black Friday,  the day after Thanksgiving, has a new name at the Greenheart Shop, in partnership with Local First Chicago. The shop will offer free workshops all day in knitting, refashioning sweaters into mittens, re-styling old T-shirts, jewelry making, and more. Snacks and refreshments will be provided. Doug Wood , of  Wicker Park Garden, and Brendan Daley, of the Chicago Park District and seven leaders who have created gardens in the parks will talk about Chicago Community Gardens in the Parks.. Learn about the recent initiatives of the Chicago Park District to work with communities to create gardens in their parks. You will learn how you can work to create a garden, hear from those who head up the program and from gardeners who have created both ornamental and vegetable gardens under this initiative. Feel a little less commercial this year by doing your holiday shopping at this Earth-friendly bazaar. Vendors will sell a wide range of products that make good gifts and are good to the planet, from tee shirts and baby clothes made from organic cotton (grown right here in the United States), to candles made from soybeans rather than petroleum wax, to homemade soaps and other health and beauty products made from all natural substances. There will be toys made from recycled materials, eco-friendly holiday ornaments, organic food gifts, a green laundry service, and much more.
